Creating a Basic Image or Hotspot Question
In the MLevel Assessment activity, you are able to ask questions that display an image for the user to interact with. There are two types of image based questions: Basic Image and Hotspot.
A Hotspot question shows the user an image, and then asks them to identify the correct answer by tapping or clicking on the image:
To create a Hotspot question, navigate to the “Game questions” tab for your mission in MLevel Studio, and then choose Assessment. Then, click the “Create New” button. You’ll see the menu below:
Select the “Image Hotspot” option and click continue to be taken to the Hotspot question creation screen:
Upload your image by clicking the thumbnail on the right and selecting the file from your computer. The recommended image size is 1024 x 640, or if you are planning on having users take the simulation in portrait mode on a tablet the recommended image width is 768 pixels.
You’ll then be able to select your shape of your hotspot from the list above your image. To create a circle or rectangle, click once on the screen to establish the center of the shape, and then drag and click again to finish it. For a polygon shape, click continuously around your image to define your hotspot:
After you’ve created your hotspot, tag your question on the left, and type your question the Question text box. Then, you can choose to include text based feedback for the user depending on if they got the question right or wrong by entering it into the relevant feedback text boxes.
Basic Image Questions show the learner an image and then ask them a multiple-choice question about it. An example is below:
To create a Basic Image question, navigate to the “Game questions” tab for your mission in mLevel Studio, and then choose Assessment. Then, click the “Create New” button. You’ll see the menu below:
Choose “Basic Image” from the list of manual question and click Continue to see this screen:
Upload your image by clicking the thumbnail on the right and selecting the file from your computer. The recommended image size is 512 x 370, but the platform will adjust to display a larger or smaller image. However, if an image is too large, it will be cropped. You’ll be able to see this cropping in the question creation screen.
After adding your image, you can tag the question and fill in your answer options and feedback on the left side of the screen the same way you would for a standard manual question. A Basic Image question can have up to six answer choices; just use the “ + Incorrect Answer” button to add choices and the “Remove Answer” option to delete them. When you’re done, your question will look like this:
After your question is ready, click “Save” to add it to your question pool.
